I am married to the most beautiful woman on the planet – Abigail. We are blessed with 5 awesome kiddos! We have 4 gorgeous daughters and one handsome little dude. They are each unique and bring so much joy to our lives.
My wife and I pastor a church called LifeChurch in Coppell, Texas (a suburb of Dallas) www.lifechurchcoppell.org where God is doing amazing things. We started out in ministry focused on the music side – still super passionate about worship! Now most of our time is focused toward speaking and writing.
I am passionate about reaching people who have been burned by the church or who have never stepped in the doors of a church. I don’t think church equates salvation. But I know if people love God, they will love His word, and His word is all about the church. The New Testament can be broken down like this: Gospels – Jesus comes to establish His church. Acts – History of the church. Epistles – Letters to the church and its leaders or from its leaders. Revelation – Prophecy about the church. The church is God’s idea and not an invention of man. A lot of times man has messed it up. So I strive to pastor a church that returns to God’s original design for the church – the hope for the world.
We also are so blessed to pastor Mundo de Fe – a hispanic megachurch. You may have heard of churches with multi-sites say “one church in two locations.” Well, we are “one church in two languages.” So every Sunday I preach the same message in English and in Spanish. So how does this gringo know Spanish? I was born in San Jose, Costa Rica. My parents were missionaries there at the time. I also lived in Guadalajara, Mexico during my childhood. So how does this gringo’s wife know Spanish? The really cool part about God bringing Abigail into my life is that although she never lived abroad, by the time I met her (she was 17 and I was 16) she had already been on several missions trips and was learning Spanish because she felt like part of God’s will for her life would include ministering to Hispanics. So she started visiting Mundo de Fe (I was the worship leader at the time), we met, we fell in love, and the rest is historia!
Now here for some more random facts about me. My favorite ice cream is Blue Bell Tin Roof. Yes, I know. You probably have never heard of or tried Tin Roof as an ice cream flavor. But trust me, when you do, there is no going back. My favorite games are Monopoly and Risk. My favorite color is “light tan” – just kidding, couldn’t resist the Nacho Libre reference. Speaking of which, our favorite family movies are Nacho Libre, Napoleon Dynamite, Paul Blart Mall Cop, and Elf. I don’t consider myself a runner but I ran a marathon (26.2 miles). My favorite sports teams are the Dallas Cowboys and Real Madrid. I love playing golf and so does my son – he’s a natural! My best score is a 77 – following all the rules and playing the ball down. I have written a bunch of songs in both English and Spanish. Several of them have been recorded by me, a few by other artists.
